The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education adheres to the following values

Mission Statement
To provide opportunities for children and adults to acquire knowledge and skills, as well as, nurture good attitudes and values for economic growth..

Vision Statement
To have an appropriately educated entrepreneurial and innovative citizenry, tolerant, productive and internationally competitive by 2030.

Goals and Strategic Objectives

  1. To improve access, equity, and completion
  • Construct/rehabilitate of additional classrooms
  • Construct new schools especially Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) in chiefdoms without one
  • Translate core textbooks into braille and audio materials
  • Adapt school environment to make them disable friendly
  • Rehabilitate of special needs dormitories
  • Establish additional learning centres for Non-Formal Education
  • Strengthen Guidance and counselling in Basic and Senior Secondary Schools

To improve the quality and relevance of education

  • Recruit and equitably distribute professionally qualified and competent 5,000 teachers who are well paid at all levels of schooling
  • Improve the conditions of teachers
  • Develop a national strategy and action plan to address examination malpractice
  • Resuscitate the Directorate of Research and Curriculum
  • Develop a Senior Secondary School Curriculum and roll out the Basic Education curriculum
  • Provide TLMs (including assistive devices) for all school levels

To strengthen education service delivery

  • Establish District Education boards and ward education committee nationwide
  • Strengthen the EMIS at District level for efficient data collection and management
  • Develop and implement IT systems to improve on staff communication and collaboration at District level
  • Validate and disseminate the Ministry’s Service charter
